Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Human Knowledge LLC ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use FrenchTextbook at frenchtextbook.com ("the Service").

Human Knowledge LLC is a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, USA, with its registered office at 30 N Gould St, STE R, Sheridan, WY 82801. For any privacy-related inquiries, contact us here or by email at .

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account using a third-party authentication provider (such as Google), we receive and store the following information from your provider profile:

  • Email address
  • Name
  • Profile picture

Usage data

As you use the Service, we collect data related to your learning activity:

  • Exercise answers and correction results
  • Lesson completion progress and scores
  • Audio generation requests (text and voice selections for pronunciation exercises)
  • Voice recordings from speaking and pronunciation exercises

When you record yourself in a speaking or pronunciation exercise, your audio is sent to trusted third-party speech services to evaluate your answer. We do not store these recordings on our servers, and the copy kept in your browser is automatically deleted after one hour.

Purchase information

When you make a purchase or start a free trial, we store your email address, the course, the transaction amount, and Stripe transaction identifiers. Your payment card details are processed and stored exclusively by Stripe and are never accessible to us. When you start a free trial or hold an annual pass, Stripe saves your payment method so the trial-end charge and yearly renewals can be made. If you cancel during the trial, we instruct Stripe to remove the saved payment method. You can view or update your saved card at any time from the Billing & card page in your account.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the Service, including tracking your learning progress
  • Process purchases and manage course access
  • Communicate with you about your account, purchases, or service updates
  • Improve the quality of our courses and exercises
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and prevent misuse

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Email communications

We send two kinds of email:

  • Service emails: login links, purchase confirmations, important account or service notices, and a one-time welcome when you create your account. These are part of using the Service and are always sent.
  • Marketing emails: learning reminders that help you keep going (for example, if you haven't started or finished a lesson), plus educational tips, product news, and special offers. If you are in the EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, or Canada, we send these only after you opt in (for example, by accepting our email opt-in prompt); if you are elsewhere, we may add you when you create an account. You can unsubscribe at any time using the one-click link in any marketing email, and we will still send service emails.

Most email apps also show an unsubscribe option at the top of the message. We honor unsubscribe requests promptly and never sell your email address or share it for others' marketing.

4. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication, security, and chat, as well as optional analytics cookies. Whether analytics cookies require your consent before being loaded depends on where you are visiting from. Visitors from the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Brazil, and Canada must opt in; visitors from elsewhere can opt out at any time from our Cookie Policy page. We honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal everywhere. For details, see our Cookie Policy.

5. Third-Party Services

We share your information with the following third-party services, only as necessary to operate the Service:

  • Google - Authentication provider. When you sign in, Google shares your profile information with us. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Facebook - Authentication provider. When you sign in, Facebook shares your profile information with us. See Facebook's Privacy Policy.
  • Stripe - Payment processor. When you purchase, your payment information (card details, billing address, email) is collected and processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details on our servers. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare - Content delivery for images and static assets. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Hetzner - Server hosting provider (Germany). See Hetzner's Privacy Policy.
  • Crisp - Live chat support. Crisp collects your device and browser information, pages visited, and approximate location derived from your IP address. If you use the chat, your messages and any information you voluntarily provide (such as your email) are also collected. Crisp is based in the EU. See Crisp's Privacy Policy.
  • Microsoft Clarity - Analytics service that provides session recordings, heatmaps, and usage insights. Clarity collects device and browser information, pages visited, clicks, scrolls, and mouse movements. IP addresses are used transiently for geolocation but are not stored. Clarity shares data with Microsoft, including for advertising purposes. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement. Clarity is loaded according to the regional consent rules described in Section 4 and is not loaded when the Global Privacy Control browser signal is detected.
  • Google services - we use Google Analytics 4 to measure how visitors use the Service, and Google Ads to measure ad effectiveness. When you make a purchase, we share aggregated information with Google so it can attribute the purchase to the ad you clicked. Where we share your email, we hash it before sending so it isn't transmitted in readable form. These services are loaded according to the regional consent rules described in Section 4 and are not loaded when the Global Privacy Control browser signal is detected.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data and learning progress for as long as your account exists. Your data is preserved even if your course access ends, so that your progress is there if you come back.

We do not automatically delete accounts due to inactivity.

7. Your Rights and Data Deletion

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. Upon receiving a deletion request, we will permanently delete your account and associated data within 30 days.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us here or by email at .

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly.

9. International Users and GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following additional rights and information apply to you:

  • Legal basis for processing: We process your personal data based on: (a) your consent (e.g., for analytics cookies), (b) the performance of our contract with you (e.g., providing the course you purchased), and (c) our legitimate interests (e.g., improving the Service and preventing fraud).
  • Marketing emails: We send marketing emails to you only with your prior consent, and you may withdraw that consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such email.
  • Your rights: In addition to accessing, correcting, and deleting your data (Section 7), you have the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
  • Supervisory authority: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.
  • Data transfers: Our third-party service providers (such as Stripe, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft) may process your data outside the EEA. They maintain their own safeguards for international data transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
